Tickets are now on sale for the Future Now Symposium, a two day event involving lectures, panel discussions, portfolio reviews and networking opportunities for artists, art world professionals and those with an interest in the sector. After the success of the inaugural edition in 2016, the Symposium returns to York St University from 25 to 26 May.

The Symposium considers the arts ecosystem within a broader social context, and creates a place for the exchange of ideas, offering unique support and talent development opportunities. This year, the event addresses how the arrival of the digital age has created an unprecedented feeling of alienation.

Communication has changed and we now rely on technology to interact, presenting ourselves in ways that are evolving beyond control. The sense that the public is merging with the domestic has also spread into a larger, blurred depiction of reality. Surveillance is becoming a prevalent and inescapable issue internationally. Contemporary art is the mechanism that enables us to respond to this renewed understanding of living.

Welcoming speakers from some of the UK’s leading art organisations, publications and galleries, the Symposium gives attendees the opportunity to meet those who are shaping the art world today. Speakers include representatives from Art Fund, Artangel, FACT Liverpool, Glasgow School of Art, Leeds Beckett University, London College of Communication, Magnum Photos, Royal British Society of Sculptors and Tate Liverpool amongst others.

Attendees are invited to choose from an array of sessions, tailoring the Symposium to their individual needs. One Day passes enable visitors to select up to four sessions on their day of entry, and Two Day passes permit the selection of up to four sessions on each day of the event. Session topics included Innovation in the Making: Technology, Design and Digital; Regeneration: Metropolitan Architecture; The Future of Art Journalism; Talent Development and Art Prizes; Funding and Commissioning; the Changing Face of the Art Institution and more.
